A Poem in love with The Bahamas

I am in love with The Bahamas...

Where the tropical sunshine is satisfyingly constant

The sacred ocean - jewel of many colors

Eternal sand, richly adorn the seashores

...with colors of coral, white and more

 

Trees of green, and tropical fruits in season

Catch of the day is always delightfully received

Conch in abundance, yellow tail and lobster

The sacred gifts of the sea

...from the generous heaven above

 

Fish to yearn for of many kinds

Cooked lovingly in locally and exotically tasteful ways

Sailing's a delightful culture

The ocean’s a blessed way of life

Fowls of above enjoy their habitats

...majestically singing their welcomed songs

…In a splendidly native scenery

 

Peoples of the world cherish The Bahamas...

Bahamians are joyously awakening to their natural treasures

Valuing more of their blessings from above…

An archipelago of honored families, history and love

 

A nation that believes in God

I am in love with The Bahamas

A place where thankfulness, happiness, and peacefulness reside

Hustling Poem

 Life's a splendid bustling hustle

..everyday's the graceful same muscles
Hustling's key to noble survival
it's life fit routine on worthy arrivals

...awake - the swoosh confidently resonates
...asleep - the woosh chills and ameliorates
Hustling wisely and finessely in brilliant spirit
...a great zing noteworthy to inherit!

Hubert Ingraham Poem

 

Hubert Ingraham - maximum party leader
...he's a skillful, and clumsy political reader

He says - he says what he means
...and means what he says
...but sometimes too bad are still his days

 

He was a contented PLP
...and now he's a happy FNM
To be simply and utterly brief
...he's a shameless provider of grief

 

A third term he would dream and wish
...but others want to be the big fish
So as the deal is
...a deal it should be
Hubert Ingraham will not go for three

So it was foolishly thought to be

...in 2007 - he again was set free

The PLP/FNM supreme leader's in for three

...there he achieved his final political victory

 

He has served - but how really well?
...only time will truly tell
...if his successors can richly gel

To take The Bahamas to brighter heights

...and to protect the people's inherent rights
The Bahamian people watched with delight

...as Hubert Ingraham took his final flight

Wonderfully sacred day to pray

...gleefully emotive reflections along the way

 

Spirited witnesses of genuine oneness

...prosperity's reward for the loving mates

Commemorating creation's eternal purpose

...with more love and endless admiration

Prayerfully abiding in divine substance

 

An exuberant day rich with humbled souls

...because God has gifted gracefully

Thankful servants enriched purposefully fine

...knowing the anniversary's essence of shine

 

Lovingness holds brilliant hope for tomorrow

Delightfully dancing the dear of hearts

...for the passionate touch of the devotee's art

Jubilant beings compatibly faithful

...anticipate bountiful devotion so fruitful

 

Partners lastingly in fortified loyalty

Focused partnership in building brightful trust

Nutritious ritual adorned with zesty intimacy

...happy sparkling anniversary

...from the hub of enduring fertility

World Poetry Day 2021

 Message by Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Hon. Iram Lewis

For World Poetry Day

The Bahamas has been blessed
by peoples of the world’s best
It is the islands of the multi-cultured
and the people are warm and historic

These lines were lifted from a poem, masterfully penned by Dennis Dames entitled “The Bahamas is my Home.” It highlights the rich legacy of cultural gifting, inclusive of poetic expression that is embedded in the Bahamian experience.

In UNESCO’s 30th session held in Paris in 1999, a decision was made to proclaim the 21st March as World Poetry Day. In celebrating World Poetry Day, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognizes the unique ability of poetry to capture the creative spirit of the human mind.

According to Audrey Azoulay, the Director General of UNESCO, “Arranged in words, coloured with images, struck with the right meter, the power of poetry has no match. This is the power to bring us together, to unite us around the same emotions, to allow us to escape even in lockdown – the value of poetry has never been more evident than during the past year.”

She continues by stating, “Poetry has the power to remind us of the beauty that surrounds us and of the resilience of the human spirit.”

The Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture join hands with the global community in recognizing March 21st, 2021 as World Poetry Day. We encourage Bahamians young and old to release poetic expressions that can uplift and enrich the lives of people everywhere.

Ignorance increases the spread
as HIV shows its dreadful head
Infidelity is a cause
as HIV spreads its deadly paws

Condoms continue to leak
as HIV shows no peak
Education is the key
Promiscuity shouldn't be

AIDS don't play…
take heed if you may
